Christiaan Bastiaans

Christiaan Bastiaans was educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (1971-1976) and at the Kyoto City University of Arts (1976-1978). Bastiaans' work has been shown in De Pont (Tilburg), the Kröller-Müller Museum (Otterlo), New Museum (New York) and de Appel arts centre (Amsterdam). He also participated in the 12th Biennale de Paris in Musée D'Art de la Ville de Paris (1982) and in the 'Aperto La Biennale Di Venezia' in Venice (1988) and in 2015 he had a solo exhibition Pharmacy Deux Mille at the Looiergracht 60, Amsterdam.
His work is included in various museum collections, including the Kröller-Müller Museum (Otterlo) and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
The countries he has visited in the course of his artistic investigations range from Japan to Irian Jaya and from India to Sierra Leone. These travels result in projects across a variety of media, in which multiple layers of meaning intertwine.
