Anna Sydorenko

Anna Sydorenko is a contemporary Ukrainian artist born in 1958. She lived and worked in Lviv from 1995 until recently relocating to the Netherlands due to the war in Ukraine. She is known for her diverse practice, encompassing land art, environmental art, installations, objects, video, and photography. Her artistic language is closely linked to a research-based approach, in which she analyzes both the properties of natural materials and the history of the location. This method distinguishes her within the Ukrainian ecological art movement.

In the 1990s, Anna became one of the first Ukrainian artists to engage with land art. Her works often involve direct interaction with the environment, using natural elements to create site-specific installations. She has participated in residencies in Ukraine and abroad, including notable projects in Germany, the USA, and Austria. Sydorenko's artistic development coincided with Ukraine's transition to independence and democracy - a period that saw the rise of contemporary art in the country. She played an active role in the Lviv art scene, curating exhibitions and supporting young artists. Her education in graphic art, received at the Kharkiv Art and Industry Institute, is evident in the graphic linearity and clarity of her spatial works.

In 2022, Anna moved to the Netherlands, seeking refuge from the war in Ukraine. Her project "Living Water" became the first work exhibited in the Netherlands.
