Sea Sonic | Audio-visual installation |

This video is part of the solo exhibition SEA - SONIC in de Bewaerschole by Tinca Veerman-Pekelharing at Schouwen Duiveland from the 18th September till 27th November 2024.

SEA - SONIC is a video accompanying the SEA - SONIC installation. It is a reflection by Tinca Veerman-Pekelharing on the idea of what borders entail in society and how we deal with them. It is important to become more aware and it is especially more relevant at this moment. Borders are often seen as both powerful and symbolic demarcations that are set by people to order, maintain control, and territorially gain social space. Nature also sets us borders, such as mountains, rivers, the coastline, that limit our movement or force us to seek alternative routes. These natural borders have an unmistakable presence and function, while human borders are often fluid, changeable and contestable. Boundaries are not static but dynamic and constantly in flux and organic lines that provide space for interaction, change, and growth. A morally responsible concept of a boundary might be one that takes into account this dynamic and the human tendency to explore, push, and even break boundaries. It would be a concept that not only imposes limitations but also creates opportunities for connection and exchange, where boundaries serve as meeting places rather than as dividing lines. Boundaries are necessary, but that their meaning and function must be continually questioned and revised in light of changing circumstances.
